Scar & Stretch Mark Camouflage FAQ's

The emotional toll of living with scars can be significant, impacting self-confidence and overall well-being. We offer two forms of cosmetic scar camouflage tattooing as a long-lasting and effective solution, helping you finally find peace and confidence in your own skin. These two innovative techniques use the NUE Conceal medical grade serums and specialty scar ink pigments to minimise the appearance of scars, allowing you to move forward with a renewed sense of empowerment:

Inkless (ISR) Camouflage

Pigment (INK) Camouflage

What is Inkless (ISR) Camouflage?

ISR (inkless stretch mark revision)  is an inkless body tattoo procedure. This innovative technique uses a tattoo machine (without ink!) to deliver serums and peptides that trigger collagen and elastin production. Similar to microneedling, Inkless (ISR) creates tiny injuries directed carefully into the scar to heal, reducing the appearance of stretch marks.

Inkless (ISR) is our favourite technique because it's used to help resurface scars, smoothing and minimising both the colour and texture by 40-60%.

What is Pigment (INK) Scar Camouflage?

Similar to Inkless we are still using a tattoo gun and fine needles, however this technique is best used after Inkless treatments and deposits coloured pigment into the skin.

Pigment is carefully colour matched  to your skin tone with the NUE Conceal skin tone reader.  We then use NUE Conceal colour pigments which are semi-permanent and will last 5-8 years depending on your skin type, how much exposure to sun that area gets.

Which technique is right for me?

Ideally, we would suggest using Inkless (ISR) before using any INK pigments. This is because the NUE Conceal medical grade serum does a wonderful job of improving scars without the use of colour!

For some, that is all that's needed for a complete transformation. Your body, will use the serum to help to heal the scar reducing it in size, colour and texture before we even consider using colour. We therefore need less pigment in any camouflage treatments.  Every person is different and we recommend a consultation to go through what is best for you.

What kind of scars can you treat?

Surgical scars, injury scars, breast uplift scars, tummy tuck scars, and stretch marks are all treatable with Inkless and Scar Camouflage. In some occasions we can treat hypo-pigmentation too. Vitiligo can be treated but due to the nature of underlying issue it has a 50/50 success rate.

Note: all scars must be 12months or older in age to ensure they are not still in their self healing stage.

What kind of scars can't you treat?

Birth marks, keloid scars, melasma and hyper-perpigmentation marks are best referred to a dermatologist or Doctor for treatment and would be better suited to Laser and other clinical treatments.

Who cannot be treated?

You cannot be treated if under skin medications such as: Cortisone, Steriods, Accutane, Ro-accutane, Retin-A or Renova.  We also cannot treat Spider veins, Varicose veins, Under eye dark circles, birthmarks, keloid scars. We cannot treat you during pregnancy or with a blood disorder.

If you are under good management we may be able to treat you with; High blood pressure, using Blood thinners, or with Diabetes or Compromised Immune System. We may request a doctor clearance to confirm you heal well from wounds.

Can you treat all skin tones?

Usually yes, although it's important to note that darker skin tones have a higher inflammation response to lighter skin tones. These scars are often larger, deeper and as a result have thinner scar tissue. Darker skin tones will take longer to heal, and are usually better suited to Inkless (ISR) than the Pigment Camouflage technique.  T

Those with darker skin tones may also require less invasive sessions, and more of them in order to get to the ideal result.

How do you match my skin tone?

Inkless (ISR) uses a medical grade clear serum and we deposit the serum into the scar to trigger a resurfacing healing of the scar so no colour matching is required.

Pigment (INK) Camouflage uses coloured pigments that are matched to your skin tone using NUE Conceal skin tone reader. This electronic device will read your tone and pigment match for the perfect blend.

Over time and with age our skin actually gets lighter. The NUE Conceal pigments are therefore semi-permanent and designed to fade gently over time (5-8 years). This means further down the track you can gently top up if necessary, and we can adjust the colour to suit you as you age.

What pigments do you use?

All scar & stretch mark INK camouflage treatments are done using the NUE Conceal pigments designed especially for scars. They are not to be confused with harsh tattoo inks and this allows us to mimic the natural layers of the skin.

With each session we can adjust the colours slightly to mimic the translucent nature of skin, for the best and most undetectable results.

Note: Any areas treated with INK camouflage cannot undergo any laser. Please ensure any laser sessions are completed before considering this treatment.

Can I still tan with camouflage treatments?

Inkless (ISR) is perfect for those who wish to continue tanning. This is because we're restoring the scar back to healthier skin, prior to its injury.

Pigment (INK) injects skin tone ink into the scars. By matching it back to you skin tone, the scar will feel disguised. During the tanning process this scar will stay the same colour as the tattoo skin tone and cannot fluctuate in lightness and darkness like surrounding skin.  By removing the whiteness you will find it still blends with a tan as there is less contrast.

How long is the recovery?

There is little to no down time after each session. Usually clients are able to resume going back to work after the procedure. Minimal swelling and tenderness may be experienced up to 5 days post session. The redness will slowly dissipate over the next few weeks as it goes through different stages and shades of healing (from dark to light).

Straight after your session, you will receive post-care instructions for the first few days and how to take care of the area for the best result.

Usually it will take 4-6 weeks for it to fully heal, however factors such as age, hormone levels, diet, general health, sun exposure may impact the duration and so it's difficult to pinpoint and exact time! If you are prone to hyper-pigmentation, it will most likely also take longer.
